INTO THE DARK

Into The Dark

everything stops
a moment frozen in time
the planet is now dead
only structures left behind

this is not about love
or about beauty held
but the beauty which came
once life had been expelled

for the longest time
there was a peace kept
we knew it would not last
but still we all wept

then one day the stars faded
blinked out one by one
that's when the darkness came
absolute zero, no suns

at least that's how it's told
today in our fairy tales
we are the last of our kind
but we will not prevail

the time since the beginning
hard for all to comprehend
we had time to evolve
and could foresee the end

but this we could not stop
as far as we had evolved
nature had taken course
this could not be resolved

for sextillions of years
our civilization thrived
we could travel the universe
and controlled the skies

but none of this mattered
at least not in the end
time had brought our deaths
now space is dark again

as we stare into the dark
we know our time is done
everything is now dead
and mother nature has won
